Michel Blazy, Bouquet final (Detail), 2012
Collège des Bernardins
Michel Blazy carves out the little things in the house that usually inspire only inattention
to the things of everyday life. It uses a mixture of natural and artificial materials for its investigations.
His works thus become metaphors of fragility,
the passage of time and the brevity of life.
Dozens of gardeners, standing on the structure of an
industrial scaffolding, produce in abundance a thick,
creamy, white artificial foam that pours into the soil of the ancient sacrism. The smell of the moss invades the site.

Léa Chauvel-Lévy: How was your project born?
Michel Blazy (spoke in French):
When I received the invitation from Alain Berland 1,
I reflected on this cold place with its thick walls.
Soon I realized that I wanted to confront him lightly.
Since I have been working on foam for about ten years,
I naturally continue this work here.
This is my biggest piece of foam.
It is cold in this sacrism, did you want to counter it with
the warmth of the bathrooms?
It's a possible interpretation... It's true that I use
a foaming bath and that it contrasts sharply with this
quiet, isolated and cool place. I am interested in moving
odours and materials from one space to another.
Nobody quickly identifies the smell of the foaming bath inthis room which imposes respect, a recollection...
It is this time of questioning that interests me.
Why did you name your final Bouquet installation?
To account for the « timing » of the installation.
It reaches its peak in the evening and starts again every morning. If you come before 10 a.m., the scaffolding and
the gardeners are empty. Maintenance, which consists of checking the levels, steering the mosses to the right side sometimes takes up to three hours. It takes 15 hours for
the foam to be properly formed, it must have « pushed ». In the evening, it is apotheosis, the foam is very light,
it is the final bouquet.
