Naoko Ito

 

In this series, Urban Nature, Naoko Ito focuses on how we try to tame nature. As she discusses her inspiration for this series, “New York has a lot of parks but I feel like the park is fake nature.
I started thinking about how, especially in the New York area, in urban areas, how people get along with nature. How they contain it.” In this series Ito has photos and sculptures, but it is her sculptures that really stand out. These works create the illusion of plants growing through glass, yet at the same time they are caught within.
